Crafted to be used, not admired from a shelf. Our briefcases, duffles, hip pouches, backpacks, and cross-body bags are made from 18oz waxed canvas and vegetable-tanned leather - materials chosen for their durability and for the way they soften, shape, and develop character with time.
From Dundee to Småland
Our bags are made to earn their wear.
The canvas begins its journey in Dundee, Scotland, where Halley Stevensons has been weaving and waxing cotton since 1864. From there it travels to Småland, Sweden, where our craftsmen cut, assemble and sew it into the finished bag.
Fresh off the roll, the canvas is stiff and carries the faint scent of wax: a sign of the process behind it, not a flaw to wear off. Over time, it softens. It takes on the shape of the trips it has been on and the hands that have carried it. No shortcuts. No mass production.
We never set out to make something that stays pristine. We set out to build products that hold up season after season and gain character along the way.
Every bag is backed by our lifetime warranty against material and manufacturing defects.

MANUFACTURING
How a waxed canvas bag gets made
Every leather part is cut, polished, and waxed by hand in Onsala, then sent to our small factory in southern Sweden, where it's brought together with the canvas panels for final assembly. The bag passes through only a few, highly skilled hands rather than an assembly line, which is why stitching and edge finishing carry small variations from one bag to the next: a mark of craftsmanship, not an inconsistency to correct. The same care goes into every size and every carry.

MATERIALS
Canvas, leather, brass and copper
The canvas weighs 18oz and comes from Halley Stevenson in Scotland, a mill with over 150 years of history in waxed cotton: heavy and slightly stiff to the touch, until it's earned its break-in. The leather is vegetable-tanned at Tärnsjö Tannery, from hides sourced locally from Swedish farms. Zippers run brass, made by YKK, hardware is hand-set copper rivets, and the padding in select models is Swedish wool felt from Woolpower in Östersund.

CARE
Brush, rinse, leave it be
Brush off loose dirt with a soft brush, then wipe with a damp cloth in cold water if more is needed. Rinse with cold water and hang to dry before using the bag again. Never use soap or detergent on the canvas as it breaks down the wax finish and voids the warranty. No machine washing, dry cleaning, or tumble drying. Waxed canvas can go years without a proper wash, and it only looks better for the wear.

DESIGN
Built around what people actually carry
Every shape is dictated by what's actually being carried: a padded back panel to protect what can't take a knock, a snap closure where a zipper would only get in the way, an outer pocket for whatever needs to come out without digging through the whole bag. The entire range comes with Crud's lifetime warranty against material and manufacturing defects: the same terms, no matter the model. A bag bought today should still be repairable in ten years. Not replaced

Our waxed canvas comes from Halley Stevensons in Dundee, Scotland, who have been weaving and waxing cotton since 1864. Every bag is then cut, assembled and sewn by our craftsmen in Småland, Sweden.
Waxed canvas is water-repellent and handles rain well in everyday use. To keep this property, never use soap, detergents or machine washing, as they remove the wax.
Brush off dirt with a soft brush, then wipe gently with a sponge and cold clean water. Rinse with cold water and hang dry. Soap and detergents damage the wax and void your warranty.
Yes, and that is the point. Fresh off the roll, the canvas is stiff and smells faintly of wax. With use, it softens and takes on the shape of your trips, while the vegetable-tanned leather develops its own patina.
It depends on how you want to carry it and what it needs to hold. Landö is our roll-top backpack, for everyday use, commuting and longer trips. Kvåle is our duffel, for weekend trips and the gym. Alta is our briefcase, for work and your laptop. Töfte is our crossbody, for when you only want the essentials close at hand. Nika is our waist bag, for when you want your hands free. All are made from the same waxed canvas and vegetable-tanned leather and carry the same lifetime warranty.
